What is a package holiday?
A package holiday combines at least two travel services, usually flights and accommodation, sold together. Many packages also include airport transfers and a board basis such as half board or all-inclusive.
How packages can protect you
Packages often come with extra protection. In the UK, flight-inclusive packages from UK businesses are usually protected under the ATOL scheme, and the Package Travel Regulations make the organiser responsible for the whole package. In the EU, the Package Travel Directive gives similar rights. In the US, there’s no single equivalent, so check the provider’s terms and consider travel insurance.
Always confirm the protection on the provider’s site before you pay.
Package or do it yourself?
Packages are convenient and can be cheaper, especially for late deals and peak family dates. Booking flights and hotels separately gives you more flexibility over times, airlines and where you stay. Compare both: the cheaper option changes from trip to trip.
